Treating Attachment-Related Problems with Play Therapy
Paris Goodyear-Brown will introduce an integrated model of treatment for attachment disturbances. “Nurturing Engagement for Attachment Repair” (NEAR) is a manualized protocol that merges the powers of play with the latest understandings of attachment difficulties and their underlying neurobiology. This program allows the practitioner to present a fully outfitted tool kit to families with attachment wounds. It includes nurturing dyadic play-based activities, relationship enhancement training, behavioral play therapy concepts, and paradigm shifting psycho-education modules. Experiential exercises, case examples and video clips will round out the educational experience.

Anxiety Wars: Fighting Fears with Play Therapy
Participants will leave this workshop with solid theoretical underpinnings for treating children with anxiety disorders while also acquiring dozens of practical play based interventions. The link between anxiety and avoidance will be explained. Three powerful metaphors will be given for helping children fight anxiety. Participants will learn specific techniques focused on helping children articulate their worries and many strategies that aid in relaxation and stress management, including how parents can become partners in the process. Clinicians will learn play based interventions that help craft boss back talk and counter cognitive distortions. Playful tools for designing and tracking gradual exposures will also be covered. Detailed case examples that cover a range of anxiety disorders (PTSD, OCD, Separation Anxiety, Selective Mutism, and GAD) will be covered using case examples; children’s play productions, and video tape vignettes.
